What Is Constipation

What is constipation? This term is very common but only a few know why this health problem occurs. Constipation is a digestive problem characterized by infrequent bowel movement.

This is usually caused by improper diet and unhealthy lifestyle. Thankfully, there are quite a few constipation remedies, many of which can be undertaken in the home.

Bowel movements do not have to be on a daily basis. Three to four times a week of passing stools is enough for you to conclude that there is no problem with your digestive system. Infrequent stools or less than three bowel movements a week could mean that there is a problem with your colon or you may have to review your diet as this is the main cause of irregular bowel movement. Other causes of constipation include stress, IBS, medications and lack of exercise. Constipation may also exist if a person has a particular medical illness.

Constipation is not hard to treat because if you are going to look closely what causes constipation, you will realize that it is your diet that provides you this kid of problem. If you are fond of eating processed food, the movement of your colon tends to slowdown because of toxic build up.

The process of expelling fecal matters from our body is made possible by our digestive system working efficiently. There are several factors that can hamper this natural process inside your body. One factor that can affect the entire process is eating unhealthy foods that contain toxins and bacteria that weaken your immune system. If this happens, your colon re-absorbs the water and makes your feces hard and dry. These hard feces block the passage of your digestive tract that can lead to irregular bowel movement.

When there is too much waste blockage in your intestinal and digestive tract, you will be having difficulty passing stools as the waste matters are clinging to the lining of your colon and intestine. This condition can be avoided if you keep your body hydrated by drinking plain water or fruit juices and incorporating exercise into your daily routine. You should also see to it that you eat fibrous foods such as fruits and vegetables which contain both soluble and insoluble fibers.

It is easy to deal with constipation if you know its root cause. The perennial question “What is Constipation?” can be answered if you are aware of the process that is taking place inside your body. Just like any health problems, constipation will not occur if your bodily function remains normal.
