There are several types of mounts for flat screen and conventional chassis television sets. These mounts are manufactured to standard specifications in order to mate with most sets, and are available at
home centers and electronic appliance stores.
The flat screen TV mounts are manufactured in either stationary or adjustable styles and usually sold in kits that include the bolts and washers needed to install the mount to wood framed, plaster walls or concrete block. Both the stationary and adjustable styles have universal brackets that will align with screw ports on the back of a flat screen chassis. Once the main body of the bracket has been affixed to a wall, the factory provided stand can be removed from the flat screen set, and the set can be installed on the mount.
Selecting the location for a wall mount bracket may depend on personal preference, as well as the proximity of the set to an electrical outlet and cable connection. Some newer single family units and custom homes will have these connections at mid-wall, in a living room or family room. If the desired location of the TV is not at one of these pre-determined areas, a licensed electrician can be enlisted to install the necessary connection boxes and circuits.
When mounting a television in a commercial business, such as a night club or sports bar, the height of the mount is a consideration. Patrons tend to move about in the area of a television, especially during major events. For this reason, the mounting location should be just above the head eight of a person, when standing.
The TV mount for a conventional television chassis is available in stationary and adjustable styles, and these mounts are designed to hold the additional weight of the heavier sets. The bracket selected should be manufactured for the specific size of the set that is to be mounted, in order to avoid pulling away from the wall as a result of overload. When mounting this type of bracket to a wood framed wall, it is essential that the fastener bolts make full contact with vertical or horizontal members behind the plaster or drywall finish.
When attaching to a block or brick face, the embed anchor bolts that are provided in the installation kit are sufficient to hold the bracket securely. Here again, the location of the mount should be in proximity to an electrical outlet and cable connection. Any additional circuits that may be required should be installed by an electrical contractor.
