Bathe Your Rabbit

In the foreboding wilderness, bunny rabbits are one of the most cunning animals around. .

They have great natural instincts that allow then to survive in distinct habitats crawling with dangerous predators. In nature, it does not matter if rabbits are cute, cuddly, or abundantly adorable. What matters is that they are delicious little animals and they have to be lightning fast on their feet to avoid being attacked.

In the safety of a human household as a family pet, a rabbit finds a welcome and safe place away from the dangers of the wilderness. When they don’t have to worry themselves about being eaten alive, rabbits make excellent pets and they can live happily hopping in and out of their rabbit hutches. Rabbits are super quick in the wild and in the home, so be aware that a loose running rabbit is very hard to catch. Take this into careful consideration when giving your rabbit a much needed bath. In general, rabbits don’t like to be bathed very much if they had a choice. They will try to twist and shake out of your big arms, mostly because they will be unsure of what is happening. Keep your rabbit steady and calm by moving slowly and be gentle with your small pet. You can also place your hand over your rabbit’s little eyes to keep it calm. If done properly, the darkness will calm the rabbit and at the very least the lack of clear vision will prevent the rabbit from getting sensory overload during the experience.

Make sure that the bath water is the right absolute temperature – not too chilly, but definitely not too hot either. Rabbits are very sensitive to temperatures and remember their tiny size will make them especially susceptible to intense heat or cold. Use the water to splash the rabbit gently and then get a nice cloth to wipe at the wet rabbit’s dirty areas. Make sure to wash behind the bushy tail as dust and various messes can build up in this dirty area.

When the bath is finally finished, take care to wrap the rabbit and dry it gently all over. It is best to dry the rabbit completely so as not to risk the bunny catching an unwanted cold. All of this should be done while holding the rabbit very firmly because it will most likely want to hop away at this point. Take your time, and be patient during all of this. Giving a bath is an important part of owning pet rabbits so get used to it and you’ll have a clean and happy hopping rabbit for years to come.
